Classic car listings from Car & Classic are now tracked alongside Auto Trader — and opening one of their search pages imports every car on it at once, then keeps following that search for you.

Our browser extension records car prices from the listings you browse. It works in Chrome (and other Chromium browsers such as Edge and Brave) and in Firefox 109+.

It covers two sites:

• Auto Trader UK — any car listing you open is captured.
• Car & Classic — both a single listing and a search-results page. Opening a search imports every car shown on it in one go, and saves the search so we keep checking its remaining pages for you.

📋 Installing in Chrome / Edge / Brave

1. Download the extension: Click the download button above to get the extension ZIP file.
2. Extract the ZIP file: Unzip the downloaded file to a folder on your computer.
3. Open Chrome Extensions:
   • Open Google Chrome
   • Navigate to chrome://extensions/
   • Or click the three dots menu → More Tools → Extensions
4. Enable Developer Mode: Toggle the "Developer mode" switch in the top right corner.
5. Load the extension:
   • Click "Load unpacked"
   • Navigate to the folder where you extracted the extension
   • Select the chrome-extension folder
   • Click "Select Folder"
6. Verify installation: You should see the "Car Price Tracker" extension in your extensions list.

🦊 Installing in Firefox

1. Download and extract the ZIP file as above.
2. Open the debugging page: navigate to about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox
3. Load the extension: click "Load Temporary Add-on…" and select the manifest.json file inside the extracted chrome-extension folder.
4. Grant site access: open about:addons → Car Price Tracker → Permissions, and allow access to autotrader.co.uk, carandclassic.com and carpricetracker.com. Firefox asks for these separately, and the extension can't read listings until you allow them. You can also just open the extension's popup — it spots a missing permission and offers a Grant site access button.

Note: Firefox removes temporary add-ons when you restart the browser, so you'll need to load it again after a restart until we publish a signed version.

🚀 How to Use

There's nothing to click — just browse. A ✓ appears on the extension icon each time a page is captured.

1. Open any Auto Trader car listing (e.g. autotrader.co.uk/car-details/…), or any Car & Classic listing (e.g. carandclassic.com/car/…).
2. Or open a Car & Classic search such as Lancia Integrale Evo — every car listed gets imported at once, and we'll keep tracking that search from then on.
3. Click the extension icon to see what was picked up from the current page.
4. Price history builds automatically from there; we re-check tracked listings daily.

Classic listings are frequently priced in euros and quoted in kilometres. Both are stored exactly as the seller listed them.

⚠️ Already have it installed?

Car & Classic support needs version 1.2. Because the extension is installed by hand, it won't update itself — download the ZIP above and load it again to replace your copy.

• Chrome / Edge / Brave: extract the new ZIP over your existing folder, then hit the reload ↻ icon on the extension's card at chrome://extensions/.
• Firefox: load the new manifest.json again, then grant access to carandclassic.com — it's a new permission, so it isn't carried over.

🔒 What it sends

Only the listing details shown on the page — make, model, year, price, mileage, engine, registration where published, and the listing's own URL and photo. Nothing about you, your browsing outside those two sites, or any account you're signed into. On Car & Classic it reads the listing data the page already carries rather than screen-scraping it.
