Our browser extension automatically extracts car details and prices from AutoTrader UK listings. It works in Chrome (and other Chromium browsers such as Edge and Brave) and in Firefox 109+.

📋 Installing in Chrome / Edge / Brave

  1. Download the extension: Click the download button above to get the extension ZIP file.
  2. Extract the ZIP file: Unzip the downloaded file to a folder on your computer.
  3. Open Chrome Extensions:
    • Open Google Chrome
    • Navigate to chrome://extensions/
    • Or click the three dots menu → More Tools → Extensions
  4. Enable Developer Mode: Toggle the "Developer mode" switch in the top right corner.
  5. Load the extension:
    • Click "Load unpacked"
    • Navigate to the folder where you extracted the extension
    • Select the chrome-extension folder
    • Click "Select Folder"
  6. Verify installation: You should see the "AutoTrader Price Tracker" extension in your extensions list.

🦊 Installing in Firefox

  1. Download and extract the ZIP file as above.
  2. Open the debugging page: navigate to about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox
  3. Load the extension: click "Load Temporary Add-on…" and select the manifest.json file inside the extracted chrome-extension folder.
  4. Grant site access: open about:addons → AutoTrader Price Tracker → Permissions, and allow access to autotrader.co.uk and carpricetracker.com. Firefox asks for these separately, and the extension can't read listings until you allow them.

Note: Firefox removes temporary add-ons when you restart the browser, so you'll need to load it again after a restart until we publish a signed version.

🚀 How to Use

  1. Navigate to any AutoTrader UK car listing (e.g., autotrader.co.uk/car-details/...)
  2. The extension automatically captures price data when you view the page
  3. Click the extension icon in your browser toolbar to see extracted details
  4. Car details and price history are automatically saved to your tracker

⚠️ Note

This extension is currently installed manually. We'll add it to the Chrome Web Store and addons.mozilla.org soon for easier installation.
